In some cases, reinstalling DirectX has resolved some sound issues.
Select Update Driver and follow the instructions. Right click on the audio device you wish to update. In the list of hardware categories, navigate to Sound, video and game controllers. Select System and Security -> System - Device Manager. Open the Device Manager (note that you may require administrator permissions for access). To check to ensure your audio drivers are up to date: Close any unnecessary programs and processes that are running while playing Skyrim. Click the Applications tab to see a list of all the programs that are currently running on your computer and each program's status (either Running or Not Responding). Right-click the taskbar and select Start Task Manager. You can close any unnecessary programs by following the process below: In some cases, other programs running in the background may interfere with Skyrim. Close Other Programs Running in the Background Disconnect any peripheral devices that are not necessary, such as a phone or camera. Your sound settings can be altered by additional peripherals. This will allow you to see whether or not the game's audio is being received (the bars will move). Once complete, start the game up while leaving the sound window open on the Playback tab. Click on the green triangle Test button to verify the sound is working. 
Click the Advanced tab and change the Default format to 16bit 48000 Hz (DVD Quality). Select the device you wish to use and click Properties. Right-click the one you wish to use and select Enable. Select the speakers or headphones that you use and right-click each one of the devices and select Disable. Right-click the speaker icon on your Windows desktop and select Playback devices. You should ensure that your speakers are correctly configured: In addition, if you are using headphones, you may wish to try using speakers to see if any sound plays. Ensure the bars are set to the maximum setting. From the game's menu, Select Settings, then Audio. Check In-Game Audio LevelsĬonfirm that the sound levels are set to an audible level: If you've plugged the HDMI cord into the correct port or are using headphones and are still experiencing this issue, please try the following troubleshooting steps. If playing on a monitor with speakers and a desktop computer, the auxiliary HDMI ports will not allow for the game audio to be played. If you find that your audio is completely missing after the intro logos to the game have completed, you should first ensure that your HMDI cable is plugged into the ports directly connected to your graphics card on the back of your computer.
